WHSL founder and Design Mafia Inc. CEO Victor Lopez Jr. shared a glimpse into his creative journey in spring 2024, opening pre-orders for his Negro Leagues Varsity Jacket. He spoke about the joy of bringing ideas to life, and his work often draws on history.

The history behind it

The Negro Leagues emerged in the early 1920s, notably with Rube Foster's founding of the Negro National League. The league gave African American players a place to play while the major leagues were segregated, and it faced limited resources, discrimination and the challenge of scheduling games. Despite those obstacles it quickly gained traction and became an enduring emblem of African American culture and sports history.
