The early rounds
The run started with a 72-37 win at Belvidere in the state playoffs, sending the Redwings home to Hoboken High School for the next round.
"Flawless victory!" They then beat Newark Shabazz 55-38. WHSL called it one of the most prominent varsity teams in years, with future athletes at every position: "You are looking at future NBA stars right here in Hoboken."
Into the finals
With a 63-48 win over Weehawken, the Hoboken Redwings varsity basketball team advanced to the finals, one game from a state sectional title. These boys worked hard to get there.

The title game
It was Hoboken's first trip to the finals since 2016, against top-seeded Newark Tech, and WHSL called on the city to come out and show its pride. Why Are Films filmed and documented the game, with WHSL founder Victor Lopez Jr. on hand to assist.
- When: Monday, February 27, 2023, 5 PM
- Where: Essex County-Newark Tech High School, 91 W Market St, Newark
The Redwings logos on the flyer were Victor's own variations of the team logo, made in hopes they might one day become something new for the team.
Hoboken fell short by two points, 52-50. "Even though you guys have suffered this defeat let me just say that we are all extremely proud of you guys!" The team went toe to toe with the best at its level and shined in every moment. Some players were seniors on the way out with prominent futures in the sport; others would have next year to get back. "Nothing is impossible!"
