It was just announced tonight—Victor Lopez Jr., founder of What Hoboken Sounds Like, and Margarita Garcia, senior advisor and CEO/Founder of Little Linguists, have been honored with proclamations from Mayor Bhalla and the City of Hoboken. The recognition celebrates their unwavering commitment to amplifying local voices, fostering community unity, and making a lasting impact through their respective work.
Lopez, through What Hoboken Sounds Like, has helped unite the city, celebrate diversity, and create a platform where all voices are heard—whether through music, community initiatives, or major events like Hoboken’s first hip-hop festival, Summer Blockfest, and the second annual SW Fest Hoboken. Garcia, a dedicated advocate for education and women’s empowerment, has been instrumental in uplifting the next generation through her work with Little Linguists.
Grateful and humbled by the honor, Lopez expressed deep appreciation for his dedicated staff and family, especially his wife, Amanda Dale-Lopez, co-founder and VP of What Hoboken Sounds Like, whose support has been invaluable through every challenge—including sleepless nights and pregnancy—alongside their four incredible children, Ariyanna, Victor III, Anthony, and Aurelia. He also thanked his senior advisor, Carmelo “Coach G,†for helping shape the organization’s vision, and extended gratitude to Councilman Ruben Ramos Jr. for this great recognition.
As proud Latinos, both Lopez and Garcia emphasized the significance of receiving this honor during Hispanic Heritage Month. Their work continues to leave a lasting mark on the Hoboken community, and with even bigger plans ahead, this is just the beginning.
